Yankees win in 10th to split series
Sunday night the Red Sox and Yankees finished their third series this season, and this one was split 2 games apiece. Yankees rookie outfielder Brett Gardner (who? yea Brett freakin Gardner) hit a weak single up the middle off of Red Sox closer Jonathan Papelbon, for Robinson Cano to score the game winning run in the bottom of the 10th inning. The final score was 5-4.
Red Sox starter Tim Wakefield pitched 6.1 innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, had 5 strikeouts, and 1 walk. Papelbon got the loss and is now 3-3 this season. Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain pitched 6 innings, allowed 4 hits, 3 runs, had 5 strikeouts, and 4 walks. Mariano Rivera got the win and is now 3-3 this season.
The next time the Red Sox and Yankees meet will be on July 25th at Boston.
