Another Red Sox win vs Yankees

For the first time in 24 years the Red Sox are 5-0 against the New York Yankees after last night's win. Jason Bay has been killing the Yankees this season with his bat, now 10 for 18 (a .556 average), with 3 home runs and 10 RBIs.

The scoring started in the first inning, David Ortiz singled to center which scored Jacoby Ellsbury making it 1-0. Bay hit a 3-run home run to left field making it 4-0. In the third inning, Johnny Damon hit a 3-run home run to get the Yankees back in the game making it now a 4-3 Red Sox lead. In the eighth inning, Jason Varitek hit a sacrifice fly scoring Bay, made it 5-3. Nick Green singled to right which scored J.D. Drew making it 6-3. In the ninth inning, the bases were loaded and Jeff Bailey drew a walk which scored Dustin Pedroia to make it 7-3.

Red Sox starter Josh Beckett pitched 6 innings, allowing 10 hits, 3 runs, striking out 5 and walking 1. Beckett got the win and is 5-2 now. Yankees starter Joba Chamberlain pitched 5.2 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, striking out 12 and walking 2. Chamberlain got the loss and is now 3-1.

Rain delay, long game, another Red Sox win

With a rain delay the game didn't end until 1:10AM but isn't this the norm for a Red Sox-Yankees game now? :) The scoring started in the first inning with a passed by as Dustin Pedroia scored making it a 1-0 Red Sox lead. In the second inning, Mike Lowell hit a home run to left field making it 2-0. In the third inning, Mike Lowell comes up big again, hitting a single to right field, which scored J.D. Drew making it 3-0. In the fourth inning, David Ortiz hit a double to right field, which scored Jacoby Ellsbury to make it 4-0. In the fifth inning, the Yankees scored three runs to make it a 4-3 game. In the seventh inning, Jason Bay hit a 2-run home run to make it 6-3. In the eighth inning, Mark Teixeira hit a solo home run to make it 6-4 but that would be all the scoring done in the game.

Red Sox starter Jon Lester pitched 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, striking out 10 and walking 2. Lester got the win and is now 4-5. Jonathan Papelbon pitched 1.2 innings striking out 3 to get his 13th save of the season. Yankees starter Phil Hughes pitched 4 innings, allowing 7 hits, 4 runs (3 earned), striking out 2 and walking 4. Hughes got the loss and is now 3-2.
