What a game today. You had Randy Johnson staring at Red Sox batters, screaming and hitting his chest when he struck people out, oh and taken out after pitching seven great innings. Tim Wakefield also pitched great, just made one mistake to Giambi, he struck out 12, which is a new career high. Jason Giambi (steroid user) hit a solo home run to score the only run of the game. The Yankees won 1-0.

Today's game seemed like a reversal of last night's game. Today the Yankees made the bad plays and fielding errors/lapses. The Red Sox won 9-2 in game 2 of this 3-game series. Manny Ramirez started the scoring with a 2-run home run and the Red Sox capitalized on the Yankees blunders through the game. Curt Schilling pitched almost perfect until the 8th inning, but he got out of that jam too. He only allowed two runs on five hits. We'll see tomorrow who wins the "rubber game" of the series.

Tonight was game 1 of a 3-game series and the New York Yankees won 8-4. Red Sox played some bad defense in this one and the Yankees capitalized on the Red Sox errors. Jason Varitek was thrown out at home plate by like 10 feet, which turned out to be a pretty big play. Varitek ran over Jorge Posada but Posada held onto the ball to record the out. The third base coach made a mistake in sending Varitek home. Also errors by Graffanino, Johnny Damon, and Edgar Renteria caused the Red Sox problems. Tomorrow Curt Schilling will be pitching for the Red Sox and we'll see what happens.

Here's something fun to read. In the July edition of Stuff magazine, there is an article with David Ortiz and there was a funny part about when they were playing the Yankees. From the article, "Here's Your Daddy" by Jonathan Stern, (page 83).

I remember one time we were playing the Yankees, and I was on first base. I either got a hit or I walked, and there were three Yankees fans sitting on top of the dugout. One of them was screaming at me and saying a whole bunch of crap. The one next to him said, "Man, you're stupid. Why do you want to get that guy mad? That guy kills every time he comes here, and you're trying to wake him up." So the very next at-bat, I went and hit a home run, and the guys started fighting, yelling, "I told you don't wake him up! I told you!" That was funny, bro.

The Yankees won game 4 of the series 5-3, to take the series 3-1. The Red Sox now just have a 1/2 game lead over the Yankees in the division. In the ninth inning Mariano Rivera almost blew another save against the Red Sox but the first base umpire blew a call that had Alex Cora out at first in a 5-2-3 double-play. The bases were loaded with no outs and after the Cora double-play, Damon grounded out to end the game. So the Yankees get another break against the Red Sox. Johnny Damon did extend his hitting streak to 29 games and Al Leiter pitched good against the Red Sox. We will have to wait until September 9th for the next game between the Red Sox and Yankees.

In game 3 of the series, the Red Sox lossed 7-4 to the Yankees. Matt Clement had a bad outing and Randy Johnson had an okay game to hold the Red Sox off. Game 4 of the series is tomorrow with the newest Yankee, Al Leiter starting against Tim Wakefield.

Well the phrase "Spank the Yanks!" has happened tonight. The Yankess got spanked by the Red Sox tonight 17-1. David Ortiz hit a grand-slam in the 6th-inning off of Yankees reliever Buddy Groom. He had 5 RBIs in this game. Johnny Damon went 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBIs and scoring 2 runs. He has a current hitting streak of 27 games which ties him with Dom DiMaggio for the fifth-longest streak in Red Sox history. Trot Nixon hit an inside-the-park 3-run home run when Yankee rookie outfielder Melky Cabrera mis-played a ball hit to center field, which went all the way to the wall. Read about today's game on RedSox.com. Tomorrow it will be Matt Clement for Boston and Randy Johnson for New York. And it's official, OF Gabe Kapler is returning to the Red Sox. Read the story on RedSox.com.

Finally the Red Sox and Yankees are playing against each other again. Tonight was game 1 of a 4-game series this week between the Red Sox and Yankees. Well the Curt Schilling as the Red Sox closer/reliever "experiment" hasn't started the way I and other Red Sox fans have hoped. He gave up a 2-run home run to pretty boy Alex Rodriguez. The Yankees won 8-6. Let me know what you think about the Curt Schilling being a Red Sox closer/reliever on our blog.

I've been away for a while so I wasn't able to post my comments when the Red Sox vs Yankees games were played in May. I enjoyed looking at the box scores for the 17-1 win and the 7-2 win by the Red Sox against the Yankees. I heard that the Boss didn't enjoy that weekend and then later on that next week I believe, the Yankees got swept by the awful Kansas City Royals.

Coming up to date, the Red Sox have lost their last two games vs the Cubs and are 32-29 in second place in the AL East. The Yankees are 30-31 in fourth place in the AL East.

The Boston Red Sox won 2 out of 3 games against the New York Yankees in the second series of the season. This game was interesting especially when a fan and Gary Sheffield got into an altercation. Jason Varitek hit a line drive down the right field line and the ball was rolling around against the boards. Sheffield went to get it and as he did, a fan's arm went swooping downward (maybe reaching for the ball), and he hit Sheffield in the jaw. Sheffield pushed the guy, then threw the ball back in to the infield. Then he went back to the guy and that's when security literally jumped into between them. The guy was thrown out of the game.

In the first game of their second season series, the Boston Red Sox whipped the New York Yankees 8-1 on opening day for the Red Sox at Fenway Park. See a recap of the game on ESPN.com. It was a great day that all Red Sox fans will remember.

Before the game though, there was a wonderful ceremony where the 2004 World Series Champions flag was raised on the center field flag pole; a championship banner was hung; the Red Sox players were given their championship rings (click to see a picture of Manny Ramirez's ring). Also Red Sox legends such as Johnny Pesky, Carl Yastrzemski, Dennis Eckersley, Jim Rice, Dwight Evans, and many more were there to celebrate too. Also no-longer current Red Sox players, Derek Lowe (Dodgers), David Roberts (Padres), and the retired Ellis Burks came to the ceremony and received their rings. They all received loud cheers. To read more about the ceremony, read this article on RedSox.com. It was a great day for Johnny Pesky, to see him get his ring will forever live in Red Sox fans' hearts. The article "Pesky has his day in the sun" has more on RedSox.com.

When the Yankees's players were being announced, the best part was when Mariano Rivera's name was announced and the place erupted with cheers and all Mariano could do was smile. He has blown the last four save opportunities, all against the Red Sox. Thank you Mariano.

The Boston Red Sox won their first game of the season today (7-3) with a win over the New York Yankees in game 3 of their first series of this young season. Mariano Rivera had a 3-2 lead in the top of the 9th inning but he blew it again. Wow, are the Red Sox in this guy's head or what? Hey Mariano, who's your daddy??!! Rivera has blown his last four save opportunities counting back to last year in the playoffs (all against the Red Sox). Edgar Renteria got his first 2 hits this season as a member of the Boston Red Sox. His 2-run single made the score 6-3. See the box score on ESPN.com.

Two ESPN.com reporters answer the question "Which team will be better and ultimately prevail in 2005, the Red Sox or the Yankees?" in the article "Matchup: AL East powers collide" by Sean McAdam and Bob Klapisch on ESPN.com.

Also lets hope Red Sox manager Terry Francona is ok and healthy and comes back soon to manage. Before today's game he went to the hospital after not feeling too good and he didn't manage the Red Sox today.

The Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees have played their first game of the season on Sunday and the Yankees beat Boston 9-2. Red Sox pitcher David Wells didn't pitch too well for his first season game with Boston. He pitched only 4 1/3 innings, giving up 10 hits and four runs. Whereas Randy Johnson for New York, pitched 6 innings, giving up 5 hits and 1 run, and he struck out 6. So the Yankees have won round 1, we'll see what happens in round 2 on Tuesday, April 5th. Read about the first game on RedSox.com.

The first time the Red Sox and Yankees played each other in 2005 was today. The Yankees beat the Red Sox 9-2. It was a pre-season game so the game didn't have many of the starters that both teams will have when the season opens. The players that no doubtedly will stay on the opening day team roster that played tonight were, for Boston: David Ortiz, Edgar Renteria, Kevin Millar, Trot Nixon, Doug Mirabelli, Mark Bellhorn, Jay Payton Ramon Vazquez, John Halama; for New York: Hideki Matsui, Jason Giambi, Tony Womack, Rey Sanchez. To view a recap of the game on ESPN.com, click here.

There is an interesting article on ESPN.com written by Sean McAdam where he asks some intriguing questions and then answering them either FACT or FICTION. If you have any comments on this article, post them on our web blog.

A-Rod is the main topic this off-season it seems. Red Sox right-fielder Trot Nixon says some things about Alex Rodriguez that I think all Red Sox fans agree with. I can't wait until the first game the Red Sox play against the Yankees. Click here to read the article on RedSox.com.
